³⁹ For the promise was made to you and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God will call.

⁴⁰ And with many other words he bore witness and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this perverse generation. ⁴¹ Then those who gladly received his preaching were baptized, and the same day there were added to them about three thousand souls.
